MY
FIRST TRIP TO DISNEY WORLD Cindy
Hong
After
waiting almost all my life to go to Disney World, I finally got to go
last September. My aunt and uncle from Chicago were going there and invited
me to go along. Since it was such a momentous and long anticipated occasion,
I knew it was going to be a trip that I would remember for the rest of
my life. But just in case, my aunt and uncle who are avid souvenir pin
collectors bought me a Mickey Mouse pin that says, “My First Trip to
Disney World.” As if I'd ever forget my first trip to Disney World.
They wanted me to remember my first trip there and that it was with them.
Remembering is a theme for our spiritual lives as well. We worship a God
who remembers his children. He never forgets us. And in the Bible, God's
people were constantly reminded to remember him and his provisions for
them. They were to remember, remember, and remember some more. And for
us today, remembering strengthens our faith muscle, too, as we remember:
All that God has done for us, what Christ has sacrificed for us, the many
times the Holy Spirit has empowered us. And during the tough times, this
strengthened faith muscle will help get us through, reminding us to depend
on God. So as we go about our day, may we take time to remember all that
God has done in our lives, especially those “first things”: when we
first trusted in Christ as Savior, when we were baptized, when we first
came to a church, those first prayers answered by God, and the many other
firsts and worth remembering things in our lives. As David's song goes,
“Remember the wonderful works He has done,” may we celebrate this
Thanksgiving weekend by remembering and giving thanks.
