A
Reflection on Leviticus Linh
Phan
I
thank God for allowing me to have the opportunity to study Leviticus again
as I prepared to teach Sunday School this past fall quarter. My initial
reaction as I read Leviticus was that these are instructions and rules
for sacrifices, offerings and worship for the people of Israel in ancient
times. It did not seem to have any relevance for me in the 21 st century.
But
the purpose of these rules was very important in the daily lives of the
Israelites. These rules were given to help them to know God who is holy.
These rules pointed to this God and instructed His people how they were
to worship Him. When we study Leviticus, we are also instructed in how
to worship God at this time, in this place. Today, as we establish rules
for our family, our church or at work, do we do it in a way that would
help others understand God and return to the holiness and glory. These
rules are not just for the good of an individual or a group. To be a follower
of Jesus Christ, our rules in God's house or ours will reflect the character
of this holy and merciful God. May the desire of uplifting God's name
be our moving force.
