COMING
HOME
Cindy Hong
Whether being gone for several
hours or several days, it is always great to come home. As I age, it gets
harder and harder to be away from home. Traveling isn't as fun anymore,
living out of a duffle bag, sleeping in a different bed, away from the
comforts of home. Home conjures up images of safety and warmth, a place
where we can just be ourselves. For me, I paddle around in bare feet,
prop my legs up on the coffee table without fear of being rude. I usually
don't, but I can leave clothes on the floor and cabinet doors open. I
can help myself to whatever is in the fridge, leave the dishes in the
sink, and do a host of other things I won't mention here. I think our
physical homes provide an audio-visual of the spiritual home that Jesus
Christ made possible for us through His broken body and shed blood on
the cross. Home with God is a haven of comfort and peace, where we can
be ourselves with Him, where we are loved as we long to be loved, known
as we longed to be known, and forgiven as we long to be forgiven. So today,
as we remember Jesus' life and death, and as we participate in that death
for our life, may we remember once again that the bread and cup leads
us home every time. Home to God. Home in His arms of love.
