A
New Beginning
Pastor Jonathan Ling
Recently, I celebrated my 50 th birthday with church members, family
and friends. I am especially thankful that my mother could be here from
Singapore . I was also humbled that a group of seniors from the Rainbow
Fellowship invited me to share their pot luck lunch and sang ‘Happy
Birthday' to me. I was treated with special lunches and dinners, gifts
and cards and way too many birthday cakes than I could handle. I thank
God for bringing and surrounding me with so many people that love me and
care for me.
Joshua,
my oldest child asked how I felt to be 50 and Caleb, my youngest asked
whether I was excited about it. I recalled someone wrote in one of the
cards I received that” 50 is just the beginning”. Another wrote to
wish me “50 more years to come”. I know this is not likely. In fact,
had I been living in another part of the world, I will soon be facing
retirement.
My prayer echoes the Psalm of Moses: “Teach us to number our
days that we may gain a heart of wisdom…Let the favor of the Lord our
God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands.” Amen!
