Low
or Overflow
Stanley Chang
I was
asked a few months ago if I was running on low or from an overflow. I
was tired all the time and I definitely was not my usual hyper, crazy
self because of the youth responsibilities that I had to take up. But
that question really impacted my thinking on how much God was in my life.
I was so tired because I was running on my own energy instead of the strength
and Joy of the Lord. We usually only go to God when we are low or running
on empty, like going to a gas station. We know we shouldn't treat God
like a gas station, going to Him only when we are “low”. The problem
is not that we treat God like a gas station, but how often we go to God.
I remember
one time I was getting gas with my dad and the gas pump was broken so
gas started to overflow from the tank and onto the ground, the car and
our clothes. We left that place smelling like gas and the gas station
had the smell of gas even more than usual. God wants to overflow in your
life so that you may be full of Him. A life that is overflowing with God
is a life that makes a difference for God. Just as I left that place smelling
like gas because of the overflow, may we live our lives from an overflow
of God so that we may give off this smell of God.
