Reflection
on the aisle of Spectrum Hospital
Lizhou Tan
Dear God, My wife and I experience you in the aisle of the hospital. When
we arrive at the Spectrum Hospital , we don't know if the hospital will
receive us immediately or not. Maybe the time is not ready yet. We might
have to go back home and come back when your time is ready. That could
be painful for my wife. We feel our faintness. Things are not in our hand
but in your hands. Lord, how marvelous is your will! It's deeper than
the deepest sea and higher than the highest mountain. The nurse asks us
to walk along the aisle of the hospital for an hour to see the progress
and decide whether we stay or go home. At about 11 o'clock at night, the
aisle is long, narrow and quiet with occasional crying of babies. I comfort
my wife, “the Lord is with us, trust Him, pray to him”. With contractions
every three minutes, the narrow aisle becomes our physical journey, our
spiritual pilgrimage to the city of God . Wherever we meet a nurse or
visitor, we see them smile to us. We are walking on the narrow road to
heaven with other Christians occasionally passing us by. Their smile and
love are our support and comfort. We sense the communion and fellowship
with them. I have to confess that I doubt the promise of God when I cry
out to the Lord. Where are you, my Lord? Help me to trust you in this
painful time. But the Lord is showing his perfection through my weakness.
My Lord, you are faithful to every word of your promise. One hour later,
we are received by the doctor and the delivery only takes three hours.
I praise you, our covenant keeping God. Your promise will never fail.
Your face will never fade away. Your presence is never absent. God let
us rest upon you, our great God. Let us trust you on the aisle to your
heavenly kingdom.
